| Thu Nov 30, 2006 6:37 pm Project Car magazine...GSX project RANT!!!! |
|
|
Anybody pick this up yet? I was browsing the car mags at walmart and saw it, looks like its a new one put out by Super STreet Mag. I noticed it said GSX project build inside so I picked it up. Looked promising until I started reading, those guys are complete idiots! I could understand if the 1b was wasted replacing it, but why would you put a 47 trim sized turbo on??? Definately makes a bad names for dsms, all they do is complain about it.
:icon_angry018:
Mod list
UDP (stock one came apart)
UICP
Megan Racing catback exhaust
Apexi downpipe
fabbed licp
boost controller
some weird afc controller thing
Walbro fuel pump (guessing the 190 not really sure, it didn't say)
Rc 550cc injectors
Nitto NT555 drag radials
47trim something or other turbo running 1.1bar (about 15-16psi)
Ran a 14.2 1/4 something most GSX's with half the turbo can do!!! I know people who have less mods then that with the stock T25 who have run under that time! :icon_violent001: |

never heard fo the mag, but it sounds retarted.lol.
Sounds like they half modded out the car and didnt tune it properly.
BTW: My buddies from BCDSM told me that the new Issue of TURBO magazine features a Laser RS build or something. Not sure exactly what they were doing to it. But its a dsm so there ya go. |

Thats just lame. Maybe I can get my car in a mag! Ha! Seems easy enough.
Damn near 50% of the jokers on 2gnt.com could smoke the piss out of that GSX. And those are the crappy 420a FWD cars.
I had an '89 LT2 Turbo Sunbird that was faster than that. (I used to love j-body's, please dont hate :) ) |

Who exactly are you making reference to? The guys from Project Car mag, or me?
As stated on tuners by Mavisky, they came with KYBs. They were NOT GR2s. And the reason they look similar is because the GR2 is a "stock replacement". Not the performance shocks that every ricer claims them to be. They take a little better to cars that have been lowered, but for the most part, they are a stock shock. Hope that helps ya get a bit cleared up. |

im going to agree here with Myk.
Although, with this in mind:
Companies will produce as few products as possible to cover as many applications as possible. Therefore, a stock replacement shock, unless it is OEM, is not likely to perform exactly the same. This shock was likely used for many vehicles. DSM (1g inparticular) are lighter than alot of cars out there. With different vehicle weights and spring rates, a shock can likely feel slightly tighter on one car, and OE on another.
It has been my experience that OE replacement aftermarket shocks tend to feel tighter than their OEM equiv. The same part number shock was used for my old 89 Sunbird, and my 91 Cavalier. The Sunbird was DEFINATELY sportier, though it is the same vehicle. The sunbird was 200lbs lighter. Therefore, while the shock is an replacement, it may feel slightly tighter than stock, hence the debate.
Hope this makes sense. |

| Yeah, I believe the GR-2s are somewhere in the range of 10-20% stiffer than the stock KYBs on it. |

You made it clear who you were addressing yes, but for a second I thought you were saying that about me. Threw me off completely. Figured you were talking about the mag guys, but just wanted to make sure, you never know.
But I have yet to read the article, from the sounds of it, I don't think I'm going to waste my time. I'm sure it was a decent article, but the outcome of what they did pisses me off and disappoints me big time. Oh well, let articles like that carry on. Then ricers will think our cars are just as slow as theirs even after dumping 5 grand. |

| I'm still not sure as I haven't seen the data supporting they aren't exactly the same but I'll take your guys word for it they are different. I'll admit my fault but still stand by the fact the struts they had on the project car were STOCK either way. Your right Brian low 14's for them are probably great. I was thinking about it and really why would we want everyone to think dsms were awesome, the less people the better really, keeps prices lower, demand lower, etc... 8) |
